Raro accommodation

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi

We'll be getting married in Rarotonga next year and want to stay somewhere nice - just wondering if anyone has any experience of the Sokala or Takitimu Villas, or preferences for either, or any others recommended?

We stayed in a house next door to Takitumu villas this past July. They are fabulous and really cater to honeymooners. Lovely grounds, great snorkeling beach, perfect. The last units were just being finished while we were there. The south part of the island is our favorite.
Sokala villas are in a very secluded part of Muri beach, we only walked past, but they looked nice.
The Takitumu villas are by far more luxurious but a little far from resturaunts, Sokala villas are within walking distance to many resturaunts.
Hope this helps,
Donna

Sokala Villas now has air-con in all units, I think, in the BR's. Villas #2, 3 and 4 are probably the nicest places on the island, they are beachfront and each has it's own swimming pool. And I'm saying this even though I may lose business to them!

Little Polynesia is also a nice place for people who want to enjoy the very beautiful beach, very friendly staff and privacy. I think they can arrange the wedding, too.
They don't have any restaurant, but do visit Aremanga /thu-fri-sat - the best food in Rarotonga and a beautiful garden.
Whatever you choose - you'll meet very friendly people all over!

Sorryyyy
my mistake - the restaurant in my previous answer is of of course Ambala Garden Cafe ( not Aremanga)

kirsol---
Not sure what you mean by "Aremanga". Do you mean "Ambala" Gardens, cafe, open 8am-3pm Thur/Fri/Sat?
that is the best food on the island!

kirsol--
I guess I was typing my reply while you were sending your second one!

By the way, Ambala just started opening for dinners on Sat. nights. a friend was there this past Sat night, the opening night, the food was great, as usual.

For those of you not familiar with it, it's the cafe run by Sue Carruthers, who started and owned the Flame Tree for about 12 yrs, until she sold it two yrs ago. It's near us at Shangri-La, here at Muri Beach, go about 100m south of us on the main road, then 100m inland on a paved road, it's on the left. Great gardens also.

Takitumu!

Where I've been reccommending where people go since I was married there in June 2001.

If you like, I can send you some of our wedding pics which were taken right on the grounds.

The accoms were wonderful but the best part was our hostess Nan and her two dogs (Arama and Jupiter if they're still around!)

Great location, quiet beach (we were seriously the only people on the beach for a good portion of the day), great snorkelling, close to rugby matches as it's right across from a field by the elem school. Close to a CICC Church.

the only thing that may be a minus is proximity to restaurants and grocery shopping. There are a few small stores (one at Kent Hall across the street) and Wigmore's is about 1.5 miles but you would either have to rely in transit or rent a car. We did both.

Let me know if you'd like more info!

I have to agree with truenic above. Takitumu villas is wonderful. We took recommendations of people on this board in deciding to go there (truenic was one of them at the time). My wife and I got married there in August and it was wonderful.

You can see our wedding pictures online at:
Wedding at Takitumu villas
We were married on the beach in front of the villas.

I also have some other shots of the villas themselves that I can email to you if you wish.

regards,
Scott
