Rarotonga - where to stay?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

We have decided to go to the Cook Islands on our honeymoon: I'm thinking 2 nights in Rarotonga then off to Aitutaki for 3 nights then one more night in Raro just before the flight back. I'm trying to figure out where to stay in Raro, as in which part of the island would be best for a honeymoon?

I've looked around the photos/prices for various hotel options and I like the Sunset Resort (west), the Moana Sands Beachfront Hotel (south) and the Muri Beachcomber. But I'm really only judging by photos... Does anyone have any suggestions?

I think Sunset is probably overpriced. The lagoon there may not be too good at low tide.

Moana Sands has a nice spot on the beach, nice place.

Muri Beachcomber also has a good spot. For swimming in the deeper water, go to the right when you get in the lagoon. It's a bit shallow straight ahead and to the left.

MB is probably closer to more restaurants, in walking distance. I'd probably pick that for your schedule.

I think Muri Beachcomber would be an excellent spot. Nice people and as Raro mentioned within walking distance of several restaurants. If you are just staying for one night on your return to Rarotonga, you may want to take a look at Aquarius, which is across the road from the airport, has a pool and restaurant and is reasonably priced.

Have a great honeymoon!

I agree with Mike re that one night at the end at Aquarius.
Or, another option is Paradise Inn in town. PI will probably let you store some stuff before you go to Aitutaki as well, assuming you will be staying with them on return. Restaurants are also not too far.
