| mrsmonkey18:12 UTC21 May 2007 | Hi, sorry to be asking such a basic question – have ordered a couple of books but they're not here yet so am turning to the experts.
I want to vist the South Pacific, length of time is flexible (at least a month I suppose), no idea where to base myself, budget maybe £3,000 GBP for flights & staying as long as possible. Where should I go? And is there any way of sustaining and occupying myself there other than just living off my savings and stuffing my face on a beach? (eg. casual work, volunteer programme that you pay for but includes accommodation etc.)
I guess I just need to relax, enjoy the natural beauty, decent weather and whatever else the islands offer. Any advice would be really greatfully recieved.
PS: am UK citizen if that makes any difference to visa issues.

In Samoa anyways, there doesn't seem to be much for the short-term volunteer at all. I've tried. You have to be involved in a long-term committment programme like the Peace corp or a church-based organization it seems.
I think you may just have to come for your month with sufficient funds and "stuff your face on the beach" as you say. :)
BTW... I love your handle... Mrs. Monkey.... Good one.

You couldn't go far wrong going to the Solomon Islands beautiful weather, people, scenery, great exchange rate with the GBP. Also there maybe an outside chance of volunteer work with one of the Aid agencies-Oxfam, Save the Children, Red Cross, EU, etc. Try these web sites for some research Solomon Islands Visitors Bureau- www.visitsolomons.com.sb or Fatboys (a resort but has great links to other sites) www.fatboysgizo.com<BR>Good luck.
