recommendations??Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea
Hi All, Sorry to be so generic with this post but I'm a little lost when it comes to the Pacific. There just seem to be too many choices so I was hoping for some recommendations for countries/Islands/Hotels that fit our bill. My husband and I love to dive so looking for somewhere with quality diving. That said however, I am always a little nervous so calm water suits me best. Don't mind a gentle drift but no strong currents. Got 2 little ones so need a resort with a kids club. Thinking something around 3 or 4 stars. Best time of year???? Somewhere enviro conscious is high on my list too. Anyone have any ideas??? As always- thanks in advance for you time/info. Cheers
The outrigger should fit your requirements, technically it's 5 star but we found it good value and wasn't overly pricey. It's on the main island in Fiji (Viti Levu) and is about an hour transfer from Nadi airport by private pick up. http://www.outrigger.com/hotels-resorts/fiji/viti-levu/outrigger-on-the-lagoon-fiji/overview There is a dive centre onsite where you can arrange your dives along the coral coast. The dive centre is about 10 minutes drive away and will pick you up and drop you off for no extra cost. The diving was good with some impressive underwater coral and swim throughs - no wrecks to speak of. Generally conditions were very easy to dive in and there were no long boat rides either. The centre is run by an Australian guy who I found to be helpful and accomodating We traveled as a couple but the resort had lots on offer for kids (including nanny service) and has a large pool too. We went over Christmas and the weather was perfect aside from a brief shower on a few days (which lasted all of 10 minutes). | 1
The best diving in the region is in PNG and the Solomons - way above Fiji or anywhere in Polynesia! My personal experience with dive resorts is limited, but one place that immediately came to mind reading what you want is Nusa Island off Kavieng in New Ireland, PNG. | 2
For kids, I can recommend the Fijian on the Coral Coast of Fiji | 3
Is that the Shangri-La Fijians resort on Yanuca Island? | 4
