Samoa - accomodation, homestay, beaches, snorkeling, gems

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi fellow travellers,

i speculate on making for Samoa in the end of this year. Im not on the tightest budget but i do not wanna blow all my money for accomodation, rather enjoy the real Samoa's life. For this reason my questions are as follows:

I.) I wondered whether there is scope of homestay accomodation in a village or so, similar for instance to that in Fiji.

II.) If not homestay, i will look for staying in some of villages' beach bures. What is the regular reasonable price (in VAT) of such accomodation? I do not count luxurious resorts such as Virgin Cove and others. I desire to stay in a simple bure in village on a beach (1person, incl. some meals). I have done a research on the internet and also looked my guide book up and prices are what slightly diverges.

III.)Where in Samoa (on Upolu and on Sava'i) are the best beaches and where the best snorkeling sites by your opinion?
Is on the north shore of Upolu worth as far as beaches and snorkeling go? It seems reef is mainly right on north shore of Upolu.
You see im thinking of staying in a first couple of days in the hostel Princess tui inn near to marine reserve apparently one of the few spots on the north suitable for the activity. What is your opinion?
Or is anywhere on Upolu a hidden gem you wanna share with me? On that occasion contact me via private message :-)

thank you guys
