Samoa/Cok ISlands or Fiji or other for relaxtion?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi guys

My partner and I are currently in NZ and hoping to pop over to a pacific island for between 5 days to two weeks for some sun, relaxation, snorkelling, sailing and diving. We can't quite decide which one though. I've went to Fiji 8 years ago and loved it but heard it's a lot busier now, so maybe try somewhere new. Thinking Samoa but don't know much about it. Generally we're backpackers but might stay somewhere mid range if just for a few days. Can anyone recommend an island and/or hotel, bearing the above in mind?

Thanks
Claire

Whether it is or not, it hardly influences the choice.

In fact I think with only 5 days, one could/should only visit one island in any of the 3 countries, so there would be little to recommend one over the other.
Any of the three would have a decent beach where one could spend 5 days.
So perhaps Claire should just go to whichever sounds most attractive to her, or whichever happens to be most affordable at the time.

If the 2 weeks are an option, Fiji or the Cooks would have more islands to explore than Samoa, though even in Samoa, it would be easy to pass that time visiting both main islands.

Hi Laszlo

Thanks for the info. I've heard Samoa may be a little too quiet so am considering Vanuatu or the Cook Islands at the moment, but any more ideas would be appreciated.

Cheers
Claire (and David)

Well, even though Vanuatu is my favourite Pacific island nation, I will be the first one to admit that at least away from Port Vila, it is even quieter than Samoa.
So maybe try the Cooks if that bothers you.
Or indeed go back to Fiji where you can choose a place as busy or quiet as you like.
