Samoa - how easy is solo travel?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi,

I'm going to Samoa for work at the end of March/beginning of April for one week and thought I might try and extend my stay and have a bit of a holiday. How easy is it to get around, does anyone have any recommendations for accommodation or places that are worth seeing – and is it safe for a solo female traveller?

Thanks

It is very easy and even cheap by South Pacific standards, and there don't seem to be serious issues specifically for female travellers (you might get LOTS of marriage offers though), with theft from rooms being the major concern.

Thanks very much, I'm sure I can deal with proposals ;o) Any specific tips?

What sort of tips do you need?
Well, just browsing through the existing posts on the Samoa branch should give you plenty, anyway...
Places too see/stay are covered in the Lp guide in enough depth for a week-long stay.

Well, one useful tip might be that with your limited time it could be more rewarding to stick to Upolu island then to try and "see it all".
Another one might be that if you are still concerned about travelling solo, Lalomanu beach might be the best spot to hook up with other tourists.

easy to get around on public transportation if you have patience. just use common sense when you travel. dont show a lot of legs as you will get unwanted attention. this is faa samoa.
