Samoa or Tonga

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hey Everyone, I am going on a working holiday to NZ next month. I will be traveling to Fiji for sure, but would like to travel to one of the other pacific islands... Samoa or Tonga is what I am deciding between - because the prices for flying/being there for a week or two seem reasonable... Does anybody have any suggestions, or has anybody been to both, and if they had to go back would choose one over the other, etc etc.

I prefer Fiji over Samoa (too hot) and Rarotonga over Fiji (too big)...... not been to Tonga

Have been to both, Samoa several times.
It depends on what you like doing, but both are well worth a visit.
We mainly go to Fiji for the ease of travel from Wellington but have visited most of the Pacific islands at least once.
Liked to see the daily use of the traditional dress in Tonga, Upolu is a larger island than Tongatapu so a bit more to see.
Tonga has more smaller islands to visit but the accommodation is a bit basic for us.
Loads of churches in Samoa.
Rarotonga is easy to get around but was our least favorite island getaway.
