Samoa - Savai'l to Faleolo Airport

Does anyone know how to get from Savaii to Faleolo Airport by 6:30am? Apparently ferries only start at 6am which probably doesn't give enough time to check in etc?? Any advice apart from book into a hotel close to the airport the night before?

You are right: the first ferry in the morning from Savaii to Upolu leaves Salelologa/Savaii at 6 am. The ferry trip alone takes at least one hour, so being at the airport by 6.30 am is not possible like this.

In fact the boat arrives 7 am at Mulifanua Wharf/Upolu. Taxi or bus ride allows to be at the near-by Faleolo airport by 7.30 am earliest.
But there is still the risk of delays, so I would never consider this transfer for a flight leaving earlier than 10.00 am.

If your flight is earlier you can only cross over from Savaii the day before. The last ferry in the afternoon leaves Salelologa at 4.00 pm, arrives in Mulifanua at 5.30 pm. You will most probably not even find a bus to Apia or the airport anymore then; only taxi transfer. The safer option would be to take the 2 pm boat, arriving Mulifanua at 3 pm, met by buses to Apia.

There are no alternative ways of transport - no other boats, no charters, no flights either.

Any advice apart from book into a hotel close to the airport? Sorry, none ... If you want to avoid going to Apia and back next morning you can indeed only check in at the Airport Lodge (quick transfers) or take a taxi from the wharf to the airport and you wait there until next morning. In that case bring a mat and possibly some food and drinks as the snackbar at the airport might not be open.
