shell collect

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi , my son is a shell collector and would like to know if shell collecting [dead not live shell] is permitted on COOK is. and if
yes where are the best places to go also are there any shell shop who sell shells??
'we going to stay in ARORANGI DIST
Thank you

When you arrive Rarotonga, you are best to consult with the National Environmental Services (NES) who can advise you if you need to obtain a CITES permit to export shells found washed up on the beaches.

There used to be a Shell Shop that sold shells and was located in Muri next to Pacific Resort. The owner has retired and is now renting his Shell Bungalows holiday homes. You can find shells sold in stores in town and near the major resorts, but nearly all are imported shells from Asia.
