Solomon Islands makes LP top 10

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

It's official. Solomon Islands is now Number 6 in Lonely Planet's Top 10 countries for this year, and the only Pacific country in the list. Now will LP produce a stand-alone guide for Solomon Islands, for those of us who want more than Guadalcanal and Western Province, and couldn't care less about Papua New Guinea?

Don't get too upbeat - LP has to nominate a new set of Top Ten countries every year, and there are only that many tens of countries in the World so pretty much every country will get its turn sooner or later! ;-)
So this alone certainly doesn't mean LP has sudedenly fallen in love with the SI and will publish a separate guide to it once again. In fact I think we'd be lucky to see the coverage of the country increase to something less ridiculously short than it is now within the two-country guide.

The Solomons will know they've truly jumped the shark when they make the New York Times.

2

They were certainly in the London Times recently, when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited.

Just noticed that Lp published the new edition just 2 months ago.
It still has only 36 pages on the Solomons:

In fact they seem to cover even fewer islands of it in this one: gone are Rennel and Bellona, if the listing on their own page is to be believed.
