solomon to fiji or vanuatu by boat

Hello,

I need information on crossing from Solomon Islands to Fiji or even to Vanuatu by boat. I understand that there are no regular or passenger boats, but are there high chances that either private or commercial boats would take me on board? If so, which is the best place in Solomon to get enough information. I will be doing this around August 2008.

Start out by asking around at the Point Cruz Yacht club in Honiara. Ozziegiraffe might have better info for you as she's been out there more than I have lately.

There are no regular ships travelling between Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, and no connection between South East Solomons and the Banks and Torres Islands in Vanuatu, as there is between Western Solomon Islands and Bougainville.
However, very occasionally, the Church of Melanesia ship "Southern Cross" travels on church business betweem Solomon Islands and Banks Islands or Espiritu Santo.

There are websites where skippers can advertise for crew and you might find this helpful to find a position as crew on a private boat. www.7knots.com is one site and if you do a search on google, you may find sites that deal with mostly the Pacific. I am not sure where else for you to look, yachting magazines may have more options for you.
