Sonaisali Island trip

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi all,
I am heading over to Fiji next March for a wedding. I've NEVER stayed at a resort, only done backpacker type trips. I'm happy to stay in the resort but really want to get out and see the 'real' Fiji maybe checking out some community projects/work or just spending time in villages, etc. I'm not really interested in shopping or dive tours or lying around at the pool. Does anyone have any experience or suggestions on how I could organise this. Although I'll be with the extended family I'm not sure if anyone will be all that keen to leave the resort so any options would need to be fine for a woman on her own possibly.
Also has anyone stayed at the Sonaisali Island Resort....feedback?
Looking forward to it.

Just reporting back on my trip to Sonaisali. In the end, my husband came as well so I didn't do any solo travelling. Just wanted to give feedback on Sonaisali resort itself. We thought it was a lovely resort. We stayed in one of the bungalows which was a long walk back to the main part of the resort. The staff were gorgeous and nothing was too much trouble but as with many pacific islands everything ran on 'Fiji time'. The resort was clean, and I would def recommend for someone who just wants to kick back and relax.
