South Pacific Honeymoon - August/September 09 - where/how much?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi all,

My fiancee and I are getting married in August 2009 and we are thinking a honeymoon in the South Pacific may be the way to go.

As we have millions of things to plan for the wedding we're really struggling with the honeymoon planning.

About us and our honeymoon
We won't be on a shoestring budget but we certainly won't be living life up as we'd like to after paying for a wedding. We'd really like to keep accommodation under $150 AUD per night, but really would like something a bit special.

We're fit and active and like outdoor activites - snorkelling, white-water rafting etc

What I'd like help with if possible are the following.

Airfares - who offer the cheapest airfares, and where are the cheapest destinations, obviously the cheaper the airfare the more we'll have to spend.
Accommodation & Cost of Living - Which destinations are cheapest to stay/sleep/eat at?
Beaches/Activities - I'm sure you can't really go wrong, but where are the best beaches and activities in the South Pacific?
Weather - what is the weather like in August/September, where would be the best place to go?

As you can see I need ALOT of help, for which I apologise, but any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Jason (& Lex)

Read the FAQ's at the top of this section, it has lots of info and may answer a lot of your Q's.

Pacific Blue has probably the cheapest flights from Australia to several island groups, so I'd start with them.

For $AUD 150/night you won't get anyhting close to top end places, but you can get a decent cottage in many island groups. Probably would not be right on the beach, maybe a garden unit in a larger place, etc.

In August it will be cool at night and warm during the day in most island groups. Warmer as you get closer to the Equator, cooler to the south.
