South Pacific Island Hopping

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi, I'm a lady of 61 planning a trip island hopping in the South Pacific visiting islands I collected stamps of as a child. I am not restricted time wise and want to go as I please. Air passes seem to be restricted either to 30 days and/or need pre-booked dates. Any suggestions?

The Samoan islands are split politically but not culturally. You will find a nice philatetic collection in Apia which includes stamps from Tokelau. I think you can have mail postmarked from Tokelau in their Apia office.

Here in Pago we have US Postal service.

So you have 3 postmarks in the Samoas. Here is a good free introduction to Samoan culture with no ads.

Solomon Islands has its own specialist philatelic bureau, very close to the Mendana and Heritage Park hotels. However, I am around your age, and prefer to stay in the St Agnes Transit House, run by the local Mothers' Union, the biggest women's group in the islands.
En suite rooms, with a shared kitchen, and a much better chance to meet the locals.
