| joe2k1109:09 UTC17 Aug 2007 | Hi, I am in the process of planning an around the world trip but have hit a snag when it comes to crossing the Pacific.
Ideally I want to fly out of Aukland calling at 2 or 3 of the Pacific Islands and ending up in LA...however I am at a lost at where to visit, where it is possible to fly to and figuring out an itinerary. Can anyone provide me with some help, i.e. a recommended route, possible connections, etc...
Thanks

Tonga and Samoa or Fiji and the Cooks (this routing will end in October when the flights between Fiji and the Cooks will cease) or Fiji or the Cooks or French Polynesia
and then to LA
At each of these destinations there are outer islands to visit.

Depending on when you are travelling: You could fly Auckland to Cook Islands (Air NZ or Virgin Blue) - Tahiti (Air Tahiti/Air Rarotonga) - LA Currently there are daily flights Auckland - Cooks and two flights each week between Rarotonga and Papeete (currently Tuesday and Saturday). There are also direct flights to LA from Raro twice a week (currently Wednesday and Saturday).
Another option, if you want to include the Cooks is: Auckland - Cook Islands - Fiji (Air NZ). The flight between Rarotonga and Nadi, as silvanocat mentioned, will end in late October. Until then, though, there is one flight each week to Fiji (Friday)
