| ozziegiraffe10:42 UTC13 Oct 2007 | Thank you for posting this. My main concern with this is how or if it benefits the Fijian landowners. If they get an immediate and longterm benefit, then it might be OK. If it is just for the benefit of the promoters, then it is the worst form of exploitation.

| katewalker13:33 UTC14 Oct 2007 | Hmmm. A one sided report. That's not biased in the slightest :)
| 2 |
| cardamom00:01 UTC15 Oct 2007 | worse than I thought-potentially a nasty nasty ripoff.
| 3 |
| raro05:17 UTC15 Oct 2007 | Well, if it's US$230 for a week, including food and transfers, that is not that bad. But no point in "joining the tribe" and paying a fee, unless one is actually ready to go there. I think the reference says that report is old, and things may have changed.
Anyway, if it's just basically a time-share, what's the big deal either way.

| mariel21:00 UTC15 Oct 2007 | Island Boi, well done for pointing us to an article from June 2006. Anyone who has done there research into Tribewanted has read this. Did you gloss over the 2007 note: "Therefore much of this article's information specific to Tribewanted is no longer valid"
I would urge anyone interested in getting a genuine, impartial opinion on Tribewanted to message directly someone who has actually visited the island (such as myself) as mention of this project on this forum seems to lead to unecessary attacks.
(Please, can those with a Tribewanted vendetta please not respond with any personal attacks on me. Yes, I know I only have 6 posts, 4 of them about Tribewanted, but this is because I returned from travelling a week ago, and am keen to share my experiences)

| islandboi32106:33 UTC16 Oct 2007 | An article is as an article does.... regardless of date.
Carry on, then.

| raro11:20 UTC16 Oct 2007 | I note we are now getting a few new posts and replies from those pushing tribewanted, many are the late "one-day" wonders! The OP AND the replier both just signed on in the last day or two, both ONLY have posted about tribewanted, etc.! (on this post, Mariel seems sincere, at least in my opinion).
| 7 |
| silvanocat02:48 UTC17 Oct 2007 | It's like the Uprising resort situation. They are going to dig themselves in deeper and deeper. One post wonders don't help your cause guys.
I personally would have no animosity about Tribewanted except that last year they kept on spamming (and we just had to have a spam removed). Didn't they have some sort of scheme where you got a free week if you got a certain amount of people to sign up under you? I sort of vaguely remember that.

| silvanocat04:41 UTC17 Oct 2007 | Guess what? I looked at fightingjoe's website (the one post wonder). This is the most incredible coincidence. If you click on the Community Building Link you can read:
"That's why when I came across the job posting to work for TribeWanted.com, my attention was piqued. The job is not only part of a community, the job is to help build the community. I'm not just part of the community experience; I'm actually getting to help shape the experience!"
And he provides a link to the help wanted ad that he answered to get the job. And one of his duties is to: "Virally market Tribewanted online that generate new memberships" (sic)
So mariel, do you think his is a "genuine, impartial opinion on Tribewanted" or more shady behavior?

| cardamom05:04 UTC17 Oct 2007 | "one of his duties is to: "Virally market Tribewanted online that generate new memberships" (sic)"
Yes old Joe isn't the sharpest knife in the kitchen is he?
LOL!!!

| raro05:21 UTC17 Oct 2007 | Well, I've eprsonally has it with tribewanted. I've giving them a chance since I read about them a hyear ago, but their sleazy tactics have made me reconsider.
See my new post warning people about them.
Sayonara, Tribewanted----this particular Tribe NOT Wanted!!

| katewalker22:00 UTC18 Oct 2007 | Hi! Me again!
Who is fightingjoe? Did he post on here at some point? I've tried to search for his post, but can't find anything (maybe it's too old or it's been deleted??)
I think I said this on the TW thread from the other week - I can understand that you must get p'd off with people registering and then posting about something (not just TW - I've seen posts on here about hotels etc) but I didn't register for that purpose. It seems that posters are all too quick to check profiles and see how long ago someone registered and whether they registered just to make that post. No-one checked that I joined Thorntree years back - around 2004 I think - so before TW even exsisted. Being called a spammer when all I wanted to do was try and put TW in a positive light, wound me up a bit!
The problem is now that when someone like me or Marial comes along and tries to post about TW, we get all the flack for the previous posts thrown back at us - which really is nothing to do with us. I can see that TW isn't for everyone but I had a brilliant time there and wanted to talk about it on a forum where I thought that maybe people would be interested... more fool me eh!?

| silvanocat22:32 UTC18 Oct 2007 | Yes, his posts were deleted the day before yesterday. What a strange co-incidence that within one week you, marial and he decide to post about Tribewanted. The last post before that was months ago.
However fightinjoe is Aaron Wheeler. You didn't meet him on the island? I guess you also missed the write up about him in the Tribewanted Newsletter
He is the Tribewanted Web Chief. His job is to use his "Web 2.0 skillz" to "spread the message and grow the tribe in all corners of the internet".
He did not identify himself as such when he posted here. He pretended to be just a regular visitor. And his job is to "Virally market Tribewanted online ".
What you need to do is gather your tribe and give them an ethics class.
You were spamming last week, that is why your press release was deleted.
At this point there really is no point in talking about Tribewanted. There are so many places to go in Fiji that have ethical, honest owners and managers. Why would anyone want to spend time on a place that employs such sleazy, slimey, dishonest practices to get customers?
As Raro said Sayonara, Tribewanted----this particular Tribe NOT Wanted!!

| katewalker23:33 UTC18 Oct 2007 | Silvanocat - Yes I did meet Aaron on the island. I was wondering what post you were referring to as I couldn't find it. It's not that much of a coincidence that we posted at similar times - the island was full of people at the start of September. There were more members there than any other time in the last year. I'm surprised there haven't been more posts to be honest, off genuine members, but maybe they've been scared off!
I asked LP to delete the post because I was getting sick of having to defend myself against all the negative posts. Maybe it was classed as spamming and if that's the case then I'm sorry - I honestly didn't think I was spamming. What makes me laugh though is everyone is quick to accuse me of spamming, but when I pm these people and ask advice on what I can do about it all, no-one answers me. This gives me the impression that everyone is happy to sit at home and try to cause arguments and slag TW off and that's it. How exciting must it be to sit at home and try to cause a bit of controversy on an online forum.
Anyway I'm giving up on this post. I've wasted too much time on this forum today.

| silvanocat00:43 UTC19 Oct 2007 | I did answer you. I said it should be discussed in the forum. You responded "whatever".
Anyway, here is the BBBOnline Code of Online Business Practices
You can find Principles for Ethical Business to Customer Conduct. The very first principal states:
Truthful and Accurate Communications
Online advertisers should not engage in deceptive or misleading practices with regard to any aspect of electronic commerce, including advertising, marketing, or in their use of technology.
Take that to tribal council.

| raro03:14 UTC19 Oct 2007 | 14---Well, Mariel sent me a PM and I encouraged her to stay on the TT, and I even posted a little defense of her post, as she did seem outside the PR program of Tribewanted. The problem with your post is that it was so overwhlemingly pushing TW that it seemed like the classic posts from their hired guns that we saw a yr ago.
So, don't blame us for being sceptical, we have seen a lot of this from them before.
I empathise with you, but you also might want to think about what Aaron and their elite members are doing that you weren't aware of. They are the nes who have poisoned it for honest posters.
