Have just 3 quick nights in Tahiti before heading to the Cooks. Thinking of staying at the Hiti Moana Villa. Seems to be reasonably priced. My only concern is that the reviews are very erratic. Some say its great--others its a dive. Anyone with first hand knowledge? Any other recommendations for a good place under $200US a night? Thanks in advance.
Can't help you with Hiti Moana Villa but can recommend Relais Fenua if you don't mind being 20 - 25 minutes outside Papetee. Our unit was quite comfortable and clean with a kitchenette(not all that great), A/C and a safe. There was a small pool and the manager was very helpful with arranging a rental car. It is in a residential with a short walk to the bus stop and there was a beach nearby. They also offer airport pick up. They are mentioned in Jane Prince's Tahiti guidebook and you should be able to google it. Good luck with your search. | 1
Check out the Mandarin Hotel in Papeete. Centrally located. Nothing fancy, but OK. Maybe US$140-160 or so. Are you on the Air Tahiti Nui flight from PPT to the Cooks? How often is it flying these days? | 2
Thanks for the info--I'll get on these recommendations. | 3
Well, it's actually an Air Tahiti flight, and it's not a tiny plane like inter-island flights in the Cooks. The only suggestion I have is to not eat too much before the flight if you tend to get queasy during airplane movements. Otherwise it sounds like you'll do fine and have a good time. | 4
The Air Tahiti flight still operates on Tuesdays and Saturdays with rumors that it may get cut back to one flight a week if business doesn't pick up. | 5
