I am looking into the possiblity of doing a side trip (if you want to call it that!) to Easter Island from Tahiti. I emailed (but no response yet) from a LanChile - tourism Chile website I found. If you have done this excursion, I would be interested in hearing how you arranged it. I will be returning to Tahiti rather than continuing on to Chile.
When I went to Easter Island from Tahiti, I continued on to Santiago but there's no reason you can't book a trip Papeete-Easter Is - Papeete on lan.com It's not cheap. I just did a dummy booking and got a price around US$2000 | 1
I did this trip 2 years ago in June as it is not so hot on EI at that time of the year. (Winter) I booked the air through a local travel agent and paid around US$800 roundtrip from Papeete to Easter Island. I stayed at a local B&B in Hanga Roa, the only town on the island. I booked the hotel on the net direct. Google for a long list of hotels and B&B's which are not expensive. I stayed one week on EI which is plenty of time to see everything. My B&B owner arranged for half day tours to all the great sights. These tours cost aboutUS$50 each , in a private car, and were well worth it. The flight on Lan Chile was great, on a 767 jet. At this time of the year the flight was not full, the food and entertainment was good on this 6+ hr. flight. They speak spanish and english on the island and everything is imported from Chile by air so food, etc. is expensive. I figure the entire sidetrip cost me about US$2,000 and was worth it. Easter Island is amazing and if you can afford it, it is worth it. | 2
Thanks to both of you for your replies. I still haven't heard from the tourism Chile folks, but I have a clearer idea of the possiblities. | 3
