Tahiti, or not?Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea
Our RTW trips ends with an extended stopover in Tahiti. After travelling for 4 months we're going to be broke and in need of some R&R but, from what I've read, Tahiti is not the place to do this. Too expensive and no long stretches of white sand beaches :( So where else in the Pacific would you recommend we go?
PS we'll have up to a week to spend in the Pacific before flying home (NZ) | 1
Given the cheaper air fares, you may be better going to one of the less populated Queensland beaches. Otherwise, what about the Cooks or Fiji? | 2
Thanks, we've decided to go to Tahiti anyway. It looked as though the money we would have to spend to change our flight to somewhere cheaper would offset the savings we would make there. | 3
I'd spend it mostly on Moorea, with just a day or so on Tahiti itself on each end for your flight arrival/departure connections etc. There are some cheap camping places, which will be the lowest cost, as you indicated you may be almost broke by then. | 4
be aware depending on how long you stay in Tahiti it is expensive but it can be done cheaply... catch the ferry to morrea asap and there is an awesome little backpackers camp run by this american dude who rents out kayaks and stuff. Its in one of the most beautiful parts of all French polynesia and there is even a bit of beach ( even if it 4 foot wide ) sorry i cant remember the name but its on the opposite side of the island to the ferry | 5
