Tahiti/Society Islands - Pokey Little Tourist Trap! Warning for travellers

Having recently visited I'd say that the time to have gone there is long past. Modern tourism practices have hit the islands big time and that most of its original culture/charm has been reduced to a Disneyland-like caricature of its previous self! I would say that apart from some of its unique geological features, it is about as appetizing as eating a Big Mac (ie
looks very tempting but after eating it, you really wish that you hadn't!).

A realistic tourist ad for the area would read something like " Come and visit us down on this crowded, beaten track in the South Pacific. We can guarantee that we will reduce the weight of all those thousands of excess dollars you carry around in your fat pockets in record time ....................

So folks if you are looking for a bit of authentic charm, peace and quiet, unspoilt inhabitants and reasonable prices don't bother with this part of the world as it really isn't worth it!
