The boats between Tahiti & Bora Bora

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Advice please from anyone who knows the boats running between Tahiti & Bora Bora. We will be in French Polynesia 15-20 April & 27 April-7 May. (Between those times we are in Easter Island).

We are bringing our tent to help keep costs down in this expensive destination, we would also like to use the Hawaiki Nui &Vaeanu boats going to Bora Bora if possible rather than fly. But from searching on the net and reading the lp guide, everything dissuades me from using this service. Booked out, unreliable schedule etc.

Is it worth us trying to get to Bora Bora by boat? Or should we just pay more money & fly both ways?

Thanks in advance!

I wouldnt rely on any website for hawaiki nui and vaenu schedule as it is extremely outdated and not be taken seriously.

We did exactly what you guys are planning to do due to cost cutting.

When you arrive in PPT, go to the plaza where the ferry to Moorea departs (this is NOT where the cargo boats leave PPT). There will be a tourist info stall that has a lot of photo copies of all the cargo boat schedules and their prices. The cargo boat info covers there even has cargo boats to tuamotu, gambier, and marquesas.

Dont worry, theres always space on those cargo boats as long as you arrive at the dock 45-60mins prior (when they're still loading).

Manuia!
