Tongan Getaway

Hi

Myself and a friend are flying to Tonga in September for 11 days. We are staying at Toni's on Tongatapu for a few days but are unsure what to do next.

We were looking into going to Vava'u but the price that i have been quoted is 150gbp which is what we are paying to get to Tonga in the first place! We are on a really strict budget but don't really know where else to go. Seems like so many different islands it is all a bit confusing.

Can anyone reccomend somewhere that is easy/ cheap to get to and has some budget accommodation?

Ha'apai is a little cheaper, but may still be out of your budget range. That pretty much leaves Eua, which is pretty close to Tongatapu. There have been several posts about Eua (I haven't been there).

If you do make it to Vavau, try Adventure Backpackers in town for a decent budget place.

Eua is nice and a little different to what you usually expect from the South Pacific (It won't give you a beach holiday). It has been years since I was there, but it is easy to reach and has some good places to walk. Heading north to Ha'apai is probably the best option if you can spend the money though. Tongatapu really isn't that exciting.
