Travel: Goroka to Mt Hagen

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi guys,
I'm currently in Lae, and will work my way up to Goroka, and maybe Mt Wilhelm. Now, I'd like to get to Tari, but am a little unsure about Mt Hagen, and the roads into it. Are they still dangerous? Raskols infesting the roads? I would like to fly in anyway, to save the 12hr PMV journey. Is there a quick way to go from Goroka to Tari?
I will also be going to the Sepik later on. Will Tari and the Sepik give me similar experiences, anyway?
Thanks
David

Goroka to Tari could be done by PMV in 2 days, overnighting in Mendi.
The Southern Highlands stretch is usually riskier than the Goroka-Hagen one, but your best sourse of up to date info will be local PMV drivers.

Tari and the Sepik are both worth visiting, exactly because they are so different.
Not similar at all, neither in landscape or culture!

However as an add-on to Goroka & Mt.Wilhelm, the Sepik would be more interesting/different than Tari.

THanks Laszlo! CHampion! I got a bit scared in Lae by the apparent crime and safety risks, so I headed to Madang instead. I'll go to the Sepik instead, and do some diving on New Britain and New Ireland! Thanks for your info!
Cheers
David
