two weeks in samoa, looking for accomodation advice

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi All,

My girlfriend and I are looking to have a 2 week holiday in the pacific this april/may, and thought we'd try Samoa. We've previously spent time in French Polynesia and New Caledonia, and loved them both. We're looking to stay in one place for 2 weeks, or 2 places for a week each. We prefer self catering as we love to buy local and cook for ourselves. We're looking for a holiday that involves lots of lying on the beach and swimming/snorkeling in warm water. I know it's a lot to ask for, but does anyone have any recommendations? We're happy to pay up to 250 tala a night. Is Samoa the place for us?

Thanks in advance

How about Stevensons at Manase on Savaii. Samoa is one of the few places that I consider the sea warm enough to swim in and there is some great coral near manase for snorkelling and a nice beach. Or a self catering option is Savaii Lagoon resort. It is in a village near to Manase. The beach is not quite so good as there are a lot of rocks in the water there. A really nice couple run a dive shop here and take people out on snorkelling trips as well - highly recommended.
Local food is very limited and imported food is limited and expensive so I suggest taking things with you. You can take most things in - I usually take cheese, snacks etc. You can buy fresh fish, chicken and pork(sometimes) plus a limited range of vegetables.
I love Samoa and recommend it highly for what you are looking for.

Samoa certainly has warm water but not a lot of sandy beaches.
We stayed at Vaiala Beach cottages in Apia for 6 weeks one year, bought supplies at the market and self catered.
We stayed there as we snorkeled at Palolo Deep each day which we think is the best snorkel spot in Upolu.
Self catering away from Apia is probably not easy as supplies would be hard to buy.
We love Samoa.
Vaiala would be well under your budget, we got a great rate for 6 weeks.
I would think a week there to see Apia and its surrounds and a week at Stevensons on Savaii would be good.
