| elizabethmerrifield17:48 UTC22 Sep 2008 | I just returned from three weeks in PNG and witnessed three situations of violence...the last being the most terrifying...The first was a fight in a market, the second was stoning and tear gas at the Goroka show combined with fist fighting and the third was in Madang..On the way to the airport we were assaulted by ten criminals...three with guns and the rest with machetes..They shot the front windshield of the car and side windows were also destroyed..Thanks to the good driver he jammed the car in reverse and we flew backwards at top speed and out drove the thugs who had no car...It was frighterning to look down the barrel of a shot gun..The local police then escorted us to the airport . I see no way to avoid these situations but rather it reflects the status of the country..
