Using Frequent Flyer Points

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

At present I have enough frequent flyer points to travel from Australia to either New Zealand or Oceania with Star Alliance Group so correct me if I'm wrong I'm limited to where Air New Zealand flies to.

My problem is that my travelling partner does not partake in any activities that involve "getting wet" as she does not swim.

I'm happy to go to New Zealand (I've been twice already and loved it) but if anybody could come up with a suggestion where we could go in the South Pacific that has other activities such as bushwalking, four wheel drive expeditions or anything on top of the ocean (not in it) to keep a non swimmer ammused.

We are both in our mid forties, reasonably active and dont mind drinking a cocktail or two (but not party animals)

Have a look at the freighter/passenger ship Aranui3. It leaves from Papeete Tahiti where the Star Alliance flies. We had a code sharing flight Air NZ and Air Tahiti Nui from Los Angeles to Papeete. The Aranui is a very relaxed ship with one bar where passengers and crew mingle.

I am not a big swimmer either and was quite happy walking in calm water to look at fish or walk along the water. :-)

Another option is the island of Niue where you can ride your bicycle, bushwalk, explore a cave and the forest.

You might consider Rarotonga. You can even snorkel in waist-deep water in many parts of the lagoon. Check out www.ck for more info.

2

Where in Australia are you? If east coast, consider flights to Noumea - a bargain at 30000 points

3

Noumea is a little slice of France in a tropical location. No need to get wet

The Aranui is great if you have about 17-20 days, and some $$$$$ unless you have a dorm bunk.
