Looking for a place for the Budget consious traveller to fiji.Are there any other options on any island apart from the beachcomber? also surfing in fiji? best place.

Consider Alberts on Kadavu - great/economical place to stay and close to surf...

I suggest you step over to Savusavu (either flying from Nadi or boat from Suva). I found one of these rare places which seem to be out of a novel but at the same time remained affordable. Next to a river which links a salt lake and the ocean there is a small eco lodge. For US$ 50 a night you can book the smaller bure (cottage) - the larger one is slight more expensive. We had the enitre place for ourselves. Take a look at http://www.saltlakelodgefiji.com/ - though I do not think that the homepage does the place justice (maybe not the marketing power of a big resort but hey you get value for money).
