Vanimo Jayapura Border

I heard from a friend in Wewak that the border is closed between Jayapura, Indonesia and Vanimo, PNG due to illegal trading at the border. Can anyone confirm or refute this?

User zefiro was in Jayapura on September 2 waiting for a PNG visa.

I was planning on entering PNG through Jayapura and will have to change my plans if it is true the border is closed. I appreciate any information on the border.

I know of two tourists who crossed into and out of PNG through the Jayapura border crossing last month with no hassles.
