Vanuatu - Wet Season Travel

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

I'm thinking of going to Vanuatu between November and February but I've noticed that this is the wet season and it is not reccomended to go there. Can someone tell me what the disadvantages (or advantages) are of going in this time and is it really that bad?

We were in Vanuatu in March this year. Of the 16 days we were there, it rained for 11 days.
Some days it just rained all morning or all afternoon & some days it just rained all day. It wasn't just your quick tropical downpour, it was torrential & when it was over that beautiful tropical sun came out in full force. Even though it was raining it was extremely hot & of course, humid.
Unfortunately, this wasn't one of my favourite South Pacific holidays, only because of the weather which hampered our sightseeing expeditions, somewhat, the destination was great.

I have been in Vanuatu at that time and other places in the Pacific during the wet season. I haven't encountered the all-day torrential downpours mentioned by #1 unless there was a serious storm in the area - which wasn't all that often, but that is no consolation if it happens to coincide with your trip.

Vanuatu will be much hotter and humid at that time of year and you also have the risk of cyclones, but all-day rain won't necessarily be a problem.

I was in Vanuatu Nov-Dec and had no problems weatherwise whatsoever!
Visited several islands by ship, hiked a lot, and had a great time.
