want to become a crewmember on a boat from australia to SE asia

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

hi there...

we (my partner and i) would like to sail the pacific from australia to where ever in SE asia...we have been travelling through australia for nearly 22 month and its time to move on..so we thought doing it via boat would be an awesome and very special experience.
we both have no sailing experience, but we are hard workers and willing to learn.
we intend to leave australia between december 08 and february 09 and looking forward to get as many information, tips or offers from you...

thanks a lot

Hi There, Have a look on 'Life on the Ocean Wave' forum. I recently posted an answer about crewing from Darwin that might help you. Also, do some research on 'sailing seasons', times of the year when boats travel from one country to another. I think you'll find that December/February is NOT a time when you will find boats heading out. Boats start leaving Australia from about April/May onwards for the Pacific Islands and even later for destinations towards S.E.Asia. It's all to do with the weather and you should perhaps be wary of vessels that sail when the majority of boats wisely wait until the right season.
