week in the Pacific - where?Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea
Hi! My boyfriend and I are considering a week in May on a tropical island in the Pacific together after being away from each other for some time. We are in our late 20s. New Caledonia and the Cook Islands are off the list (already visited). Important criteria: Cheapish flights from Sydney, and preferably not a super long flying time. Nice beaches, pleasant snorkelling and access to some other fun activities (maybe hikes, or boating, cultural experiences...) Low hassle, access to some cold beers... Very preliminary research suggests that Vanuatu and Fiji are the frontrunners, but other ideas very welcome. Budget is not a huge issue, and we might consider a resort if it is not really isolated (and maybe we can score a package deal!) Any pointers greatfully received....
look at Uepi, in the Solomon Islands. (www.uepi.com). 3 1/2 hours flight Brisbane/Honiara, then domestic 1 hour. You can be there in the day. Skyairworld have started flying to Honiara from $249 + taxes each way. Brilliant snorkelling, great food, and icy cold beers! | 1
Another option in Solomon Islands is Maravagi Resort. No extra flight from Honiara, just a 2-hour outboard ride. | 2
Va'Vau in Tonga. or... If you have dollars, spend time on Fafa Island, Tonga. or Fiji. | 3
Either Vanuatu or Fiji could be great. Vanuatu is friendlier and more traditional, while Fiji is cheaper and offers a wider range of organized activities. | 4
Thanks guys for your help, looks like Vanuatu is winning - maybe Erakor Island...... | 5
