Hi, I am interested in visiting Samoa with my wife and two year old son, probably on the South coast of Upolu island. Sounds like Samoan tourist accommodation are either basic fales or upmarket resorts. Although I like the idea of a basic beach fale, it may not be the best idea for our son, and so we would like to stay somewhere that has reasonable facilities eg air con or a fan, a kitchen or good cafe/restaurant. My wife would probably like a TV, though it's not essential. Ideally with a village nearby that has some facilities eg small cafes or the odd shop/market. Thanks for any suggestions.
Hi there, it looks like we're looking for the same thing. We'll be in Samoa (probably June 2009) with two small children as well. Here is a post where I asked for suggestions: http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/message.jspa?messageID=14229067#14229067 When are you planning to go? If you are there before you, we'd love to hear how you liked it and where you ended up staying. Good luck ... | 1
"Sounds like Samoan tourist accommodation are either basic fales or upmarket resorts". You're right... Most of them are. And as I had mentioned to TuebinginTraveller in a PM you may also have difficulty finding a place other than a beach fale situation that will take children under 12. If you want inexpensive, child-friendly, close to stores and shops, TV, aircon, etc. you will end up staying in Apia. Why do you not consider this? Rent a car or take a taxi out to some beaches everyday. Samoa is not Thailand. | 2
I very much agree with #2. Have a look at Vaiala Beach Cottages. They have a nice big lawn, very well fenced though, which is very pleasant for a town accommodation when traveling with a small child. | 3
I would suggest Coconuts Beach Club Resort and Spa, no TV's but a great beach, good food, spa and pool for kids! Also they have a great tour company, Manoa Tours based there and they offer learn to surf lessons, snorkel trips by boat or car to a lot of amazing spots as well as hiking and other adventures. Its the best spot for the WHOLE family (wife, husband and kids) on island. | 4
