What are the pacific islands like in February??

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hello,

My friend and I are looking to set off on our gap year next February. We are looking at stopping off on Fiji, Samoa or Tonga en route to SE Asia. We have been doing our research but cant seem to find a definitive answer to what weather can be expected. Can anyone shed some light on this?

we would be looking to travel there in mid to end Feb for up to 3 weeks.

Cheers.

Februry is in the wet season. Much more rain is likely between October and April than the rest of the year.
There is also the small chance of a cyclone.
Temperatures are typically in the low 30sC and it will be very humid, but if that is acceptable to you it is still possible to enjoy the experience.

Cheers,
Peter

Thank you. You say more rain likely, does it usually come in short sharp down pours or rain for days? or does it fall at night? Looking mainly at Samoa and Tonga.

Typically rains from mid/late afternoon for a couple of hours, but it really depends on the weather paterns and the local topography. It can of course rain non stop for a week, but that is not generally the case.
Search out some weather sites for the areas you intend to visit.

Cheers,
Peter
