What islands are the best??????????

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi,

I'm going to Fiji at the end of July, start of August for 10 nights. I have heard conflicting reports about the standard of accommodation and food on different islands...... could anyone give me any recommendations on islands that provide good accommodation/food and the one's to avoid!

I am looking for somewhere quite chilled out to just lie on the beach for most of the day as it is like a short holiday for me before going home after 8 months travelling.

Also is it better for me to book before going or should i just book my first night in Nadi and go from there?

thanks

Hey!! We have the same problem, were gettin conflicting reports also! Were off there for 10 days in about a week! We just want a beach to chill out on and somewhere to do our PADI course costing as little as possible! anyone out there have any ideas??

You are getting conflicting reports because people's opinions are based on different standards and expectations. They never bother spelling out what those standards are, and so it's difficult to distinguish 'opinion' from information.

The other side of the coin is: without spelling out your own expectations and wishes, it's impossible to say which island is "best". There's no such place.

Someone wanting luxury would certainly not be happy with the basic, budget level accommodation on a small resort island such as Leleuvia or Caqalai ..

Adecent guidebook ought to provide information as trustworthy as any random collection of opinions. It worked for me..
