What surface passages are available from Australia to South America?

Hi,
I'm aiming for a few months travelling around South America early 2012 though would like to start by taking an interesting route to get there.
Has anyone information on ships/boats that transit the Pacific from Australia to South America?
I'd hope to see some islands on the way if possible.

Very expensive cruise ships, cargo boats that generally don't stop at islands (the island freighters do a circuit with Asia) and private yachts, which mostly travel East to West. You might be better posting this on "life on the Ocean" branch.
