What type of traveller are you?Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea
I found this on the BBC's news website: There are two types of travellers characterised by TV's Homer Simpson and Mr Spock, a study suggests. [http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7793369.stm] Anyone traveling to the South Pacific should better be not too 'spocky' but keep some 'homerish' approach as well ...
I'm spocky all the way and I think it's a necessity for Pacific travelers. A laid back approach is fine in SEA where there are zillions of little travel agencies to get you from here to there, good public transport, touts to meet you upon arrival and backpacker districts where you can walk and choose from multiple similar However, in places where there is minimal public transport, where your accomodation choice can make or break your trip and there are few and spread apart places to stay, where there is not enough quality tourist information available I say research, research, and research. | 1
I guess most users of this forum must be the Spock types, as those belonging to the other lot appaently have never even heard of TT, even if they did buy LP guidebooks to take along! | 2
The universe of man cut into two categories..perhaps that's the level of complexity which that particular researcher could handle. | 3
Yikes, I'm so Homer S. I'm embarrassed. Especially for travelling in the SP, that hardly requires any pre-preparation. Except maybe for Port Moresby and treks into the highlands. I guess I'm embarrassed because I don't particularly like the Simpsons - having said that, I've never watched an episode all the way through so I don't know if I'm missing anything or not. | 4
Hmmm...what about the people who are otherwise Homer but rely on their Spock of a daughter to do all the research right down to flights, accommodation, activities and how to operate coke machines?!! | 5
LOL sneaker_fish, you are in the best of both worlds. | 6
I confess to being a Spocky - my husband is the Homer - at times it makes for some rather interesting moments on our trips! | 7
