Where are these islands

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

I have discoverd that I have no idea where most of the south Pacific Islands are. But there is a great web sit which is teaching me- http://www.lizardpoint.com/fun/geoquiz/index.html. If I do this every night in only a year or two I will be able to find Wallace and Fortuna on a globe!

Hi Waldo--
It's actually Wallis and Futuna!

See what I mean- I might be able to speel them too!

The quizes really are great for learning what is where. IMy son is using it for the states (again!) and I looked at this one and realized that I could find Australia and New Zealand, Hawaii, and the north Pacific Islands but without names on the globe had no idea where most of the islands were. So that is this falls educational experience. I won't even tell you what I got first time through- but it was pitiful.

I managed 79/96 on my forst attepmt, but then I live in one of the countries, and visit another regularly. There were a few islands I'd never heard of, though.

Amazing how many of them there are. You did well! I think I should begin by taking a map and just scoping them out. Us northern types tent to lump most of the southern ones together I guess ;-)

I actually did find that the map itself was a bit difficult to read- I had trouble figuring out where Guam was on it and for me that is a bit like losing Australia so I can blame some of it on that. But mostly that is an excuse.

I think they forgot Niue!

Fun site. I won't bore anyone with my score ..

Niue is there.

6

I agree, but it was one of the ones I missed.

Thanks for posting the link - I had fun with it but did not score very well. I also found the map hard to read. I bookmarked the site and plan to try the other areas.

I think we've had this linked here before - with Raro cursing Wallis & Futuna back then! :-).
Did it again anyway, with the same result: missed some of those uninhabited guano islands of the US like Midway, Baker & co. Which left me with 87/96.

There are a few that not only can I not find- I'm not sure I've ever heard of them. But I'm working on it. I did find a similar map with names which I think I will spend some time with.
