Where to go whilst pregnant

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi,

We are looking at going to the Cook Islands whilst I am 5 months pregnant? Can anyone recommend where to go, we will need somewhere with medical facilities but somewhere we can go snorkelling, shopping and enjoyng the culture. We really hate the tourist thing but understand that if we require medical facilities we will have to be near the touristy areas. Can anyone reccomend the best part of Cook Isands to go that suits our circmstances? We are looking at going in Early June for two weeks? Is this location a good choice for a last trip before bub arrives? Sorry for so many questions but if anyone can recommend a small boutique resort or even a family run place with a small number of accommodation places where we can stay?

Thanks heaps!

In the Cooks you'll do best if you stay on the main island of Rarotonga. There is a good midwife at the local hospital, plus NZ certified GP's, surgeons, etc.
.
The island is pretty tiny, you will never be more than 10 miles from the hospital, so don;t worry about that in choosing where to stay.

Best snorkeling is at southern end of Muri Beach and south coast (Titikaveka). Bring reef shoes and a mask, flippers not really needed as it's shallow in most places, etc.

You can do a day trip to Aitutaki, but med. facilites there are not too good, so I'd suggest you not stay overnight if you are worried about med. things.

check out www.ck for places to stay, things to do, etc.
