Where to stay FijiCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea
Hi all I'm really struggling to decide where to stay when we are in Fiji when we visit at the end of September. We are only there for 5 days in total so we are a bit restricted on time. I was thinking of staying at Otto & Fannys on Tavewa Island but have emailed them and got no response. All the other resorts I have looked at seem a bit too pricey for us and I don't think we have enough time to go further afield. Any recommendations would be very much appreciated. Thanks Kate
There are a number of resorts on islands within 1 or 2 hours from Denerau (Nadi's Port) in the Yasaws and Mamanucas OR go to the Coral Coast. We are going to Octopus in July. Ive seen it from the boat and it looks really nice and it is inexpensive. | 1
Email in the South Pacific isn't always taken seriously-try phoning them direct instead. | 2
Late last year my Best Friend and our Daughters spent a wonderful 10 night break at Shangrila Fijian Resort, in the Yanuca, Fiji Islands...was fabulous..very Kid Friendly..keep an eye out for package deals, some great specials on internet from time to time | 3
#3 I agree that the Fijian is stunning - I stayed there 3 times. Problem is that it is pricey | 4
It really all depends on what type of vacation you are looking for...the Mamanuca islands are very resorty and fairly expensive http://wikitravel.org/en/Mamanuca_Islands, the Yasawa islands are similar just further out from the Mamanuca islands http://wikitravel.org/en/Yasawa_Islands nobody really goes to Nadi as the goal of their vacation and I wouldn't go to Suva as the goal of my vacation either. The coral coast is very nice but not as resorty....not that there aren't resorts....but it is more spaced out http://wikitravel.org/en/Coral_Coast I stayed at the "Beachouse" http://www.hostelz.com/hostels/Fiji/Viti-Levu/Coral-Coast on the coral coast and enjoyed it...cheap, quiet, clean, but it is kind of in the middle of nowhere. There are several other resorts all within a short drive though if you need access to certain things (ATM etc.) | 5
Thanks for all your help everyone, I decided to go for the Octopus Resort as it was getting such good reviews everywere and was easy to book. | 6
"was easy to book." - youve done well to book there. We are going at end of June and been trying for a while, though ned togo during peak (school holidays) | 7
I've booked a 10 day stay at the shangri-la fijian in August. Our package already includes breakfast and all meals for the kids. We could have paid an additional $100(Aussie Dollars) a day extra to get lunches and buffet dinner included . This sounded expensive so I've decided just pay for meals as we go. Is this the right way to go? how much can I expect to pay for meals at the resort? | 8
Food at the Fijian IS expensive (like at any 5star place) and you COULD spend $100/day on lunch and dinner....but...do you WANT a buffet every night? You may want to have a la carte- eat light or better eat elsewhere. | 9
Thanks Mandja. Any suggested options for eating outside the Fijian? Are these places easy to get to? | 10
Just outside the main gates of the Fijian, in the Cultural Centre is a Chinese Restaurant (it may not be chinese now though). If you call they would pick you up from the hotel lobby. In Sigatoka there are a number of cafes/restaurants - a $10 cab fare away. Finally there are other hotels on the Coral Coast that you could go to and each have eateries - Outrigger, Warwick etc. This is cut n pasted from another site - Dining | 11
