Which is better - Fiji, Vanuatu or Samoa

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi,

I have never been to the South Pacific before and need some help. I'm planning a quick getaway in early June and am looking for somwhere with a great beach that is quiet but also an island that has enough to explore.

Any feedback would be great!

Vanuatu is my overall favourite country in the region, while I found Samoa the least endearing one.
Both gained that ranking based on locals' attitudes to visitors.

Other than that, all three countries have big enough islands to offer both beaches and exploring, with the main island of Fiji being the biggest and most diverse of all. Fiji also offers the widest range of accomnodation and organized activities - Vanuatu and Samoa tend to be more low-key.

So really, any of the three could be a good choice for a short trip.
Unless you have specific interests to draw you to one or the other, perhaps you could just pick the one that offers the best value pricewise.

I have just returned from Octopus Island Resort - Fiji - it has everything you could wish for; great beach, beautiful coral reef 10m off the shore, outstanding menu and excellent for exploring.
