Which island/s for a week's holiday?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Looking for somewhere to spend a lazy week of diving, snorkelling and lounging about in hammocks for our anniversary. Prefer somewhere child unfriendly, and value's more important than the costs. Always prefer to be in an environment where there's competition between the bars and restaurants rather than stuck in a resort.

Can anyone suggest where we'd head to around the end of June for reliably good weather? Haven't been to any of the pacific island groups as yet, but ideally it would be somewhere pacific blue fly to as we've got a stack of points to use up.

Thanks for any pointers,
Alex

I'd head to Rarotonga , Cook Islands..... its very much a honeymoon destination so therefore not that many backpackers or kids ....I was there last year and only the couple of big resorts (Edgewater , Rarotongan and another one ) seem to be child freindly , and so alot of the other accommodation places are child free , which I agree is an important point if you want peace and a quiet pool.
I stayed at Shangri La Cottages .. they don't allow anyone under 18 to stay there and its a great place and a great location , and there are retaurants near by.

Pacific Blue fly to the Cooks but if you want a very quiet place with the most stunning lagoon then spend a few days on Rarotonga then fly over to the the island Aitutaki for a couple of days ..... this accommodation place is highly recommended on this site ( do a search) 'Etu Moana ' - http://www.etumoana.com/
You can book a flight online and it will cost around $300 ( can't remember exactly) http://www.airraro.com/<BR>
