Working in tonga

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi guys, still throwing a few ideas around on our next destination on this crazy road that is the globe...and was wondering if someone out there knew anything about working in Tonga? I have a British passport and have heaps of experience in a variety of trades, recently working as assistant manager in a backpackers, but would be looking to do almost anything that earns a crust.

anyone out there worked in Tonga before?

Thanks

Not Allowed -you get a 30 day visitors visa and that's it.

Any legal work would have to be arranged by your employer before your arrival.

That is pretty much the same anywhere in the Pacific Islands. They don't have enough paying jobs for their own citizens.
You would need a qualification in short supply there, like teacher or doctor.

2

a volunteer gig is your best bet. get paid local pittance or a living allowance. australian volunteers and us peace corps are big. i'm sure the brits would have something or other going on if you were really keen.

Brits have VSO - there are plenty of them in the Pacific, but they are usually University qualified (or perhaps trades like building) - in needed areas.
