Young(ish) travellers in Fiji

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea

Hi there,

Myself and two girlfriends are planning a trip to Fiji over the Christmas period. None of us have ever been before, and are a bit unsure of where to go.

We're essentially looking for a relaxing tropical holiday, but would like to go somewhere that's still relatively lively. We'll be there over NYE, and it would be nice to have some options if we want to celebrate.

Can anyone recommend somewhere not too isolated or family focused? We're happy to go for a resort-style package holiday, but nothing too pricey.

Is it a bad idea to stay too close to Nadi?

Thanks in advance!

Rita

Don't stay too close to (or in) Nadi - no beaches to speak of.

Sounds like what you want is one of the backpackers' resorts on the Yasawas or in the Mamanucas (island groups accessed from Nadi) - there are many to choose from, described in decent detail in the LP Fiji guide.
Or check this website .

Should you find them a bit too expensive, there are cheaper (though less pretty) alternatives along the Coral Coast of Viti Levu.

If you can't make up your mind before going, note that there will be travel agents welcoming you as you walk out of the arrivals' gate at Nadi airport, and they will only be too happy to show you photos of various places, and then book you into one.

Yep, the Yasawas or Mamanucas sound right up your alley.

There isn't really much life in Nadi, and absolutely none on the Coral Coast. The only reason to opt for those places is that they're substantially cheaper than the islands.

Thank you both so much! Really appreciate it.

We'll start looking into the Yasawas and Mamanucas today.
