Budget accommodation in Tuvalu

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tuvalu

Hello,

I am going to spend less than 2 weeks in Tuvalu (Funafuti only) and need some advises. I do have LP guidebook.

Accommodation : Are there budget accommodations available ? I can see few on net but they seem very expensive. Is it possible to stay with local families for a payment ? Also I would like to stay on Funaful Islet (or Funafala) for 2/3 days. So how can I get two-way transfer to Funaful ? And how can I book accommodation there ? Do GH there provide meals, specially veg meals ?

Currency : Should I have AU $ or US $ will work ? Any ATM or bank there ? Do credit cards work ?

Sightseeing : Is it possible to hire private boat for less rates ?

Any advice is highly appreciated.

Thank you.

During my visit, the cheapest hotel cost $33 after negotiation. No organized family stays, bit you could try asking around.
You will definitely need AU$.
Of course it is possible to hire private boats by asking around.
