Tuvalu for two weeks

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Tuvalu

Hi,

I would like to visit Tuvalu for less than two weeks. I will be having return air ticket on Air pacific (of course) from Fiji.

What is the fee to visit Funafuti conservation area and what are the extra charges for using DSLR camera ?

One more curious Q. Is it possible to visit at least one more island apart from Funafuti considering my two weeks stay ? Even for few hours can be great.

Thanx in advance.

If I remember correctly, a day-trip package to the conservation area cost somewhere between $100-150, including transport and entry fee(s).

Whether or not you can get to an outer island within your 2 weeks will depend on whether or not a sailing is scheduled for that period. If you are flexible about the ship and the destination, it should be possible, but you will only find out once in Funafuti.

Without an outer island trip 2 weeks for Funafuti alone would probably be WAY too long!

Read the Tuvalu link in my signo line for more.

thnx Laszlo,

I could not open the link given by you.

btw is Air Pacific a reliable airline as far as flights between Fiji and Tuvalu are concerned ? I cannot spare a day once my flights are booked.

thnx again for the link. I could open it.

It seems very tricky to decide between a week and two. Anyway visit to Funafuti atoll will be a great experience which I don't want to miss.

Air Pacific are pretty reliable. When we were there, a flight was cancelled but they rescheduled it for later in the week rather than skipping it altogether.

The Conservation Area fee was AUS$150 and there was an additional charge for getting a boat on a weekend (overtime payment). I'd suggest you don't need more than a week on Funafuti to see all it has to offer. It's a fun place to visit and I very much enjoyed my time there, but it's a slow pace of life.

thnx again,

This year I visited Fiji & Vanuatu and really loved the stress-free life in SP. and moreover I am a very slow traveller.

Anyway I will update here once I reach Tuvalu.

Quite the translation from that Russian's blog

"Generally , it was felt that the people of Tuvalu are very lazy , especially when it appears they lie stacked on special sites at each house and is very reminiscent of fur seals."
