Accommodation close to Yasur Volcano

Anyonw has an accommodation to recommend on a walking distance to Yasur? Thanx.

Yes, its called Jungle Oasis (300 meters from the base of the volcano) and you can see what they offer on the vanuatu-hotels.vu website. Other is Turtle Bay Lodge, a liitle furthet (1 km) but better standards, ditto website.

There are two more options, both about 2 hours walking from the volcano. Port Resolution Yach Club and Friendly Bungalow (both basic accommodation but with a beach in front -Friendly is literally on the beach). Jungle Oasis is nice and the closest accommodation from the volcano, but far from the beach.

That means we can WALK up the volcano and no need to take a tour to get there?

greggig .... If you go up the volcano - go with a local who knows it. It's several years since I was there but previous to my visit a couple of people died near the summit. When you reach the top you'll see ejected rocks lying all around in the dust ... imagine a fresh, red hot one landing on your head! Be careful.

I stayed at Volcano Smile Lava Bungalows (google that) a few months back. Running water (cold) & great hosts (Philip Joel) Its at the very base & takes maybe 30 mins to walk up. If the volcano is closed due to large eruptions you can simply sit in the village & watch it from there. They will collect you from the airfield.

It is probably time to update this post, Friendly is now owned & operated by Poppies Resort and not the same rate as before. Tanna Evevergreen Bungalows is now much larger and called Tanna Evergreen Resort & Tours. There are two new establishment on Tanna: Tanna Lodge and Sunset Bungalows which can be also be found on www.vanuatu-hotels.vu
