Hi there! I posted a thread some weeks ago inquiring about Iririki resort. The offer they sent me as an early bird for April/May next year was interesting, but now I have seen in the paper some even more interesting offers for Breakas and Mangoes Resort. My question is whether either Breakas or Mangoes are worth a "bargain". Would we spend too much money on meals there or on taxis going to Port Vila for a cheaper meal or some drinks? How much are meals and drinks (water/beer) at the resort? Any advice welcome, Pepita
I'd recommend Breakas over Mangoes. It's further out but only $2 (aus approx) by local bus to town, food and staff are great, nice pool, surf beach, and not too far from the ferry to lovely Erakor island which has beach, not too expensive restaurant, good atmosphere. Don't remember prices at Breakas as being too bad - never stayed there but we always try to go for a meal on our first night in Vila every year. Mangoes is up the hill in the middle of town, does not have its own beach and although the restaurant is recommended we found it disappointing. It is close handy to Poppies where I have stayed and that was great. | 1
I'd say Breakas. We just returned but did not stay there but everyone we met who stayed there LOVED it-one couple said Breakas did the best steak they have ever had ! Buses are frequent and you should not pay more than 200 Vt each way. Enjoy ! | 2
Thanks all of you for your advice, Breakas seemed to me better, as well. Pepita | 3
Depends how much you like hot or humid. November and May are okay but December the temp is usually starting to soar and April is the (usually) wettest month. Myself, I'd go for the Nov-Dec timeslot and hope by the time Dec came round I'd got acclimatised to the heat. Humidity is worse, in my view than straight hot, but Vanuatu can be unbearably hot in summer. Having said that, Breakas is on the lagoon where you get the trades, whereas - another disadvantage - Mangoes is in town and Vila is on the wrong side of the island to get the winds. | 4
Thanks fatfourpence, I think I will take the Nov-Dec offer! | 5
