Hi there! I'm planning on going to Santo for 6 nights at the start of Febuary with my boyfriend. Was originally going to stay 2 nights at the Deco Stop in Luganville in order to have a bit of freedom as to what to do in the evening (as opposed to being limited to resort food and entertainment) but have heard its not really worth spending time in luganville. So am now thinking just one night in Luganville to pick up some food supplies for the rest of the trip (to save money!) and then the rest of the time in either Oyster Bay, Aore or Bokissa. We are in our late twenties, sociable and looking for somewhere comfortable, clean and not too basic although am not expecting 5 star luxury! Planning to do lots of day trips like millenium cave, champayne beach, waterfalls but also a day or so just chilling at the resort-so nice beach is a must! Preferably also not too many kids! 1.Any ideas/suggestions/ preferences from the 3 resorts i've listed above or any others?
Thanks1 Thank you!! | ||
It has been quite a while since we were in Vanuatu, but we did visit Aore. We just spent a day there - although we went back a second time because we enjoyed it so much. Both times we were the only people around, so it may have got busier since then(!). In all likelihood the staff / owners have changed, but they were very nice and gave us free use of bikes, and kayaks. I don't remember there being a great beach, but the island was nice to explore. Our favourite place was Lonnoc Beach Bungalows. I guess you need a more up-to-date report on this but the food there was fantastic, the beach was beautiful (and adjacent to Champagne beach), the bungalows were roomy and clean (but simple). It was a magic place, but I doubt you could avoid (local) kids - they came and swam every day. I'm not sure many local people in Vanuatu would actually understand the kid aversion... | 1

I stayed at Deco Stop, Lonnoc, Oyster Island and Bokissa last year. I recommend staying at Deco Stop for the first night, then going to Oyster or Lonnoc. Lonnoc is pretty basic but it is located on the most spectacular beach/bay in the south pacific. Oyster is a great place to stay as well with plenty to do. Bokissa is good but once you get there it is not easy (and expensive) to get back to the mainland to do the various tours that you want to do. Over 6 nights I would recommend, 1 night at Deco Stop, 3 or 4 at Oyster and/or Lonnoc and 1 or 2 at Aore or Bokissa. From Deco stop do some shopping in town at the grocery store for snacks and food, as you won't find them anywhere else. | 3
Stocking up on your wine or beer or gin and tonic for pre dinner drinks in your room, snacks or changing currency in Luganville works but not really any other reasons to hang about. Be aware if you stay at Aore you are just 5 mins from town on their complimentary ferry/shuttle. Nice place with good food too. | 4
