Aniwa Ocean View Bungalows, Aniwa Island

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Vanuatu

July 2015
Just returned from staying here. These are the only bungalows currently on the island and all damage from Cyclone Pam has been repaired. I can’t recommend staying here enough!! These were by far the cleanest, nicest bungalows of any we visited throughout Vanuatu. The extended Mudji family who runs these will go out of their way to do ANYTHING you request. The bungalows have great views and nice breezes. Fifteen minutes outside of the village and the only sounds that will wake you are the crashing waves. Joshua the owner and patriarch, wife Leon, son Jethro and daughter-in-law Jennifer will lead village tours; let you help prepare traditional meals; teach traditional weaving; take you fishing or snorkeling, and hunting for lobster; take you to a John Frum service; and much more. Jennifer speaks very good English, and you can e-mail or call to set up your stay.

Untouched by tourism, Aniwa Island is a great place to visit. We brought our 3 children, school years 7-10 and they loved it. The family at Aniwa Ocean View Bungalows will take very good care of you. Let them know when you are arriving. There will be a truck at the air strip ready to drive you across the island, through the villages, to be greeted with fresh coconut water and a big smile from the family.
